About London Step Restoration
Most 19th century properties in London have stone steps that now have other materials covering the original worn surfaces. The coverings generally fail in time and the cracks and fissures cause water ingress.
Properties having steps leading up to the front door over an internal basement area often have issues of water penetration and damp. Tanking on the inside is a common method chosen to eliminate the problem but does not alter the fact that water is still entering the masonry structure and in time will weaken it.
Our system based on epoxy resin quartz which is applied over the prepared steps provides a permanent external waterproof membrane preventing leaks and damp. Original elegant details like nosing profiles are restored as part of the process.
Over time all the damp in the stone and masonry will dry out without the need to resort to tanking. This makes the system a two in one solution for steps restoration and damp curing.
The following sequence of photographs show the process of removing asphalt from very worn york stone steps and the installation of our cast epoxy resin quartz system.
